How to Get Around LAX Airport
Few airports generate as visceral a response as LAX, the Los Angeles International Airport. This busy hub for millions of passengers is one of the world's busiest airports, with flights to destinations across the globe. Whether you're en route to an exotic locale, or simply passing through on your way home, here are some tips to make your travels through this sprawling complex a bit smoother.
Public Transportation - Shuttle buses, taxis and the LAWA-operated FlyAway bus system provide air travelers multiple modes of airport access. A future regional light rail system serving an airport-adjacent station is expected to further enhance public transit options at LAX, which currently include the city's bus service (which drops off at Aviation/LAX City Bus Center) and the Metro Green Line bus (which takes you into downtown Los Angeles via the 7th Street/Metro Center Station).

If you have a long layover and want to explore the local area, consider a taxi ride to Manhattan Beach or El Segundo, each of which offer shopping, restaurants and a nine-hole golf course within a ten-minute drive from LAX. You can also use your layover time to visit Los Angeles attractions, such as Hollywood or Beverly Hills.

Once you arrive at the airport, check your flight status at an information kiosk inside a terminal or the LAX mobile app. Then, head to the baggage claim area and locate your luggage belt. If you are flying with a connecting flight, wait for your connecting flight to be called before heading back to the terminal. If you are flying with a non-connecting flight, leave the terminal and walk over to the LAX-it pick-up area east of Terminal 1 to wait for your ride-share or taxi driver. The new pick-up zone has been in operation since October 2019, and while it has its kinks, it should improve as it is further refined.

The Tom Bradley International Terminal (Terminal B) has an inter-terminal bridge to connect to Terminals 4 and 5, making it easy to access other international airlines, especially those in the United Kingdom, Japan and Australia. The airport's free cellphone lot is available for two hours, or you can park in one of the central terminal area parking structures for up to 15 minutes. For those who are traveling internationally, the airport offers Global Entry kiosks for expedited international clearance.
Entering the airport building itself is only permitted for airline passengers and those meeting, accompanying or assisting them, as well as personnel whose employment requires their presence at LAX. Otherwise, the airport is closed to the general public.
